When visiting Paris for Paris Design Week, I usually focus primarily on the various exhibitions and galleries. Just as I did in Milan last spring, I’ve let go of the illusion that I’ll actually manage to see everything on my list. There were a few places I definitely wanted to visit, and a number of galleries in Saint-Germain were on my itinerary as well. Unfortunately, it turned out that all the galleries were closed on Sunday, something neither I nor many others could quite understand. With an international design crowd in town for Paris Design Week and Maison & Objet, you would expect at least some of them to be open over the weekend.
Saint Laurent Montaigne
Fortunately, there was more to see than just the smaller galleries. One of the places high on my list was the new Saint Laurent flagship store on Avenue Montaigne, which opened in 2025. Housed in a former embassy building, the store covers three floors and combines the Saint Laurent collections with art, vintage furniture and design pieces.
The interior immediately caught my attention, with dark wood, marble, carpets, large windows and a mix of contemporary art and historic design pieces. The furniture and artworks were selected by Saint Laurent creative director Anthony Vaccarello, with references to Yves Saint Laurent’s own taste and his history as a collector. Someone working in the store also told me that much of the decorative material used throughout the space comes from Yves Saint Laurent’s own archive.
Saint Laurent Rive Droite Café
Behind the store is a patio belonging to the Saint Laurent Rive Droite Café, followed by the café itself. The space has a relaxed atmosphere with several seating areas with vintage chairs, a bar with animal print stools and a curated selection of books, magazines and Saint Laurent objects throughout the space.
