Still buzzing from Milan, going through hundreds of photos and dozens of stories I still want to write, I visited Antwerp over the past few days at the invitation of Antwerp Design Week. Together with a group of journalists, we visited various exhibitions, companies and showrooms.
These events, where different brands or designers exhibit together, always offer something for every design taste. I found that same diversity within the group of journalists invited. Everyone brought their own perspective, yet we connected easily through a shared passion for design. With Antwerp Design Week growing and the different programs running next to each other, the Antwerp Design Week team made a selection for us.
I was glad to see some of my favourites included, sharing some of them here in this article, while on Instagram I will share some more of the brands we got to visit during the press tour with Antwerp Design Week.

Het Labo
Het Labo has been active for decades with themed exhibitions and interventions in public space, bringing together different disciplines and generations along the way. Since the 1990s, when platforms for design and applied arts in Antwerp were still scarce, the collective was already exploring formats that blurred the boundaries between visual art and design.
That approach has remained at the core of their practice, continuously bringing together emerging and established talent in unexpected combinations. During Antwerp Design Week, this translates into a curated exhibition setting where different voices and disciplines come together in a carefully composed presentation.
More about the Labo exhibition can be found in my Instagram highlight ADW 26

The Edit — Flanders District of Creativity
Flanders District of Creativity returns for its second edition with ‘The Edit’ a curated professional platform showing a group exposition with the latest work of emerging designers selected by a jury. I am always drawn to black and at ‘The Edit’ it was Atelier 85 that caught my eye. Started as a passion project, inspired by Wabi Sabi, Senufo, and Scandi styles, Dutch designer Leffert works with natural materials and, as he says, embraced the subtle imperfections that make each handmade table coming out of his atelier in Dordrecht (NL) a one of a kind.
Atelier WE
ALU CASTED OVER ORBEEZ is a stool by Atelier WE that originates from a material study. The aluminum is 100% recycled and melted down. Afterwards, the aluminum takes shape by being cast into a sand mold filled with Orbeez. Orbeez are water-absorbing polymer beads that expand when submerged in water. These Orbeez give the aluminum a fluid and abstract texture.
Other designers at The Edit: , CANDOUR Antwerp, Debora Vancayzeele, De Winter Design, doet, FESTON, Fur., Rayon Belge, ROVER project, studioloco and Trames FACTICES by Amandine Fabry.

The Hall
On the first night we visited 12 Antwerp for the opening Party, where AIM Architecture and Yoko Choy curated ‘The Hall’, bringing together objects from across disciplines and cultures, not to define design but to show its relevance through diversity. Next to a few familiar designers, I discovered many to me unknown designers.

Axis x Moonler
Formerly known as Cafe Capital, the place has a long history that moves between café, nightlife and club culture. Today it is being reactivated under the name Axis Antwerp , following a takeover by Joachim Marijnen, who is shaping a new chapter for the location.
During Antwerp Design Week, we were invited to get a first glimpse of the restaurant concept, chef Wesley Debord presented a seasonal approach to food as part of the wider project with beautiful presented and tasty shared dishes, an amazing Ginzu Spritzer by Bôtan and a special Vermentino from Joachim’s own wine yard in Sardinia.
Moonler is a Thai furniture brand from Chiang Mai, working with locally sourced Chamchuri wood and rooted in a craft tradition that combines local craftsmanship with contemporary design. Each piece is handmade by artisans in the Doi Saket region, where traditional woodworking techniques are translated into clean, modern forms, with a clear focus on material, detail and finish. At Axis they showed us their collection.
Moonler will also develop the furniture pieces for the space, adding another layer to the evolving interior, with many other plans underway to gradually bring new life back to the venue. I can’t wait to come back here!
Love these shelves by Moonler and can easily imagine them in my home with beautiful ceramics on display
