I spotted the L4 Stool by French designer Lucas Cambier during Isola Design Festival in Milan in 2025. It was one of his early designs, and I was drawn to its strong, simple shape and use of materials, , which I had not come across before.
Lucas describes the L4 Stool as “soft brutalism”, combining a geometric aluminium frame with the warmth of a handwoven Danish rope seat. The frame is made from 8 mm thick aluminium, giving the stool a solid and sculptural appearance, while the woven seat adds a softer, more tactile element.
L4 Stool: soft brutalism
The rope seat is made using a traditional weaving technique and can be replaced over time, extending the life of the stool. The combination of the raw aluminium and woven Danish rope gives the design its distinct character.
Since founding his multidisciplinary studio in 2022, Lucas Cambier has designed a range of furniture and objects, working with materials including aluminium, ceramic and marble.
The L4 Stool is available as a made-to-order piece.
