Vinhuset at Ästad Vingård by Norm Architects

One of the things I truly love about interior design, and which I enjoy applying in my own home, is the reusing of materials or objects in different rooms. For example, you see metal and brass in various places throughout my home. I also have a few favorite lamps that appear in different rooms. It creates a sense of calm and consistency, something I personally value highly. I also saw this at Vinhuset  designed by Norm Architects.

For Vinhuset, a new building at Ästad Vingård in Halland, Sweden, a series of bespoke furniture pieces was developed by Karimoku Case. These new designs are combined with existing Karimoku Case furniture by Keiji Ashizawa Design and Norm Architects. Together, they create a consistent interior language throughout the building. The furniture adds warmth and a human scale to the spaces, with an emphasis on material quality, comfort and craftsmanship.

Set within the soft contours of the Halland landscape, Vinhuset emerges as a new focal point at Ästad Vingård; the Swedish wine estate where Restaurant ÄNG and Sjöparken, both designed by Norm Architects, have already established a shared vocabulary of nature, craft, and sensorial calm. With Vinhuset, the same architectural approach continues, with a strong connection to nature and a calm, restrained use of materials.

The building is set into a planted hillside and follows the natural shape of the landscape. It is organised over several levels, connected by terraces and wide outdoor staircases. The façade is simple and measured, creating a soft contrast with the surrounding forest and nearby spa buildings. Railings and steps guide visitors through the building and offer views over the vineyard.

Inside, the spaces follow a clear sequence. The reception introduces the atmosphere, with natural light and framed views leading towards the landscape. Large openings visually connect the interior with the vineyard and forest, making the surroundings part of the experience.

Smaller, more intimate areas are found throughout the building. These spaces are defined by soft furnishings, filtered light and subtle architectural details. A new orangery-like extension opens up to wide views of the lake and towards the estate’s restaurant. It is a space designed for spending time, whether for a morning coffee, a glass of wine or sitting by the fire.
