Echoes of Texture | Linie Design x Karimoku Case at 3 Days of Design 2025

After designing the Linie store a few years ago, Norm Architects collaborated into the development of the Woven Matter collection together with Head of Design, Urd Moll Gundermann. Norm Architects approached the design phase much like they do with their architectural and interior projects focussing on atmosphere, emotion, and materiality. Presented by Linie Design and Karimoku Case, this year’s exhibition Echoes of Texture, curated by stylist Pernille Vest, shows how materials can feel and look by combining Japanese minimalism with Nordic craftsmanship.

When I visited the exposition during the press day it was packed, handwoven rugs by Linie Design were displayed vertically on bespoke wooden frames by Karimoku Case, inspired by traditional Shinto gateways. The composition creates a quiet interplay between the refined surface of the rugs and the architectural calm of the wooden frames. The exhibition also features select Karimoku Case pieces from Foster + Partners, Keiji Ashizawa Design, and Norm Architects, each contributing their distinct aesthetic perspectives to the exhibition.

Woven Matter collection

The newly launched Woven Matter collection reflects a shared design philosophy rooted in structure, tranquillity, and movement. Crafted by hand using hand-carded yarns, the rugs combine natural materials like wool, linen, and jute, chosen for their individual texture and tone. Woven Matter draws inspiration from the quiet strength of Japanese architecture, where form follows feeling and every line holds intention. Rooted in the principles of structure, tranquillity, and movement, the designs reflect an architectural rhythm: the repetition of lines, the interplay of space and pause, the subtle tension between stillness and flow.

“Each piece is crafted with a deep respect for material honesty and manual processes,” explains Urd Moll Gundermann. “The use of hand-carded yarn adds unpredictability and vitality, woven into the surface like small woven stories of texture and depth. When these hand-carded threads are combined with smooth, even yarns, a subtle dialogue arises between the rustic and the refined.”
