In one of my favorite locations during Milan Design Week, at the 5Vie headquarters on Via Cesare Correnti, Beni Rugs presented Intersection a new collection of rugs designed by Paris and Marrakech-based architecture firm Studio KO. Intersection is an ode to memory, told through ten motifs inspired by the quiet poetry of everyday relics — redacted documents, handwritten notes, diaries, and faded gestures in ink. The collection explores how we write, preserve, and share our lives, both intimately and collectively. In a way, it turns memory into something tactile. Words become patterns, ink becomes wool.
From Marrakech, Rabat, and Casablanca to Milan, Studio KO’s first designs for Beni Rugs translate the language of memory into meticulously handcrafted Moroccan carpets. It’s a beautiful contrast: industrial-age artefacts transformed through one of the world’s most traditional weaving methods. This is Beni’s most ambitious project to date, both technically, with the introduction of new rug constructions, and conceptually, diving into one of the most universal themes of all: the passage of time.
