For me Januari means the start of a new fair season and visiting Domotex. The world’s leading trade show for floor covering with exhibitioners and buyers from all over the world. A fair filled with inspirational events, workshops and great experiences for retailers and private visitors.
At Domotex there is something for everyone, from colourful handmade or machine-made rugs to parquet, wood and laminate flooring. Some brands really take an effort to create a universe fitting their design. For me those are the ones that are such fun to cover on the blog and on my social media and Pinterest.
Two days at Domotex
During two days I showed you my most interesting finds on Social Media Have a look at my Instagram At my Domotex Pinterest album you will find all images I made in the coming days.
There were different interesting installations, of which I will show some in the coming weeks in a separate blogspot. For now a round up of some of the events and rugs that caught my eye.
Inside italy
The special display Insight Italy was created to answer the question ‘”What’s inside Italy” In two different halls showing Italy’s contribution to the development of materials linked to interior design.
‘Divina’ was one of the exhibitions curated by Camilla Bellini. In recent years she occasionally joined our team and panel discussions. A real tribute to Italy, celebrating Italian creativity, genius and know-how through an exhibition of design products contextualised in naturalistic and architectural landscapes.
It was a journey through different Italian regions. Italian music filled the room. Then, walking through the entrance to the exhibition, you walk on a section of the dome of the Pantheon, the best preserved architectural masterpiece of ancient Rome in the world.
Midnight in a palace
‘Midnight in a palace’, an installation by Lila Valadan and one of the highlights at this year’s Domotex. This exhibition had it all, 12 mesmerizing art installations where divine rug artistry, culture, design, and art came together and gave us a glimpse of the Persian weaving culture, colourful and mystic. I have made lots of images I will share in a separate blogpost.
Jute & and Green Carpet design winners
I have always been interested in how Jute is used in different carpets. Sometimes it feels rough and other times super soft. But always interesting because of the colors, which come close to my personal palette. I spotted several carpets, some pure natural and others with geometric patterns.
I was particularly impressed by the large collection of Mangalan (sorry for the blurry pictures taken from my story) which as I later discovered was one of the winners of the Green Collection Awards. A price for Sustainability in the Carpet and Floor Covering Industry. Next to Tisca who presented different new carpets , including the beautiful new Opal rug pictured below.

Mood Spaces by Holly Becker
Holly Becker of Decor8 was invited to create different Mood Spaces and together with Concept store Möbel Staude and Paint brand Caparol icons. Six spaces filled with color, interior trends, and the profound impact of design on our emotions. Lena Petersen crafted a mesmerizing mural over a span of three days, and there were different presentations and workshops in the space.
Designed to inspire, the installations illustrate the dynamic interplay between color and design on floors and walls, as well as with carpets, lighting, accessories, and soft furnishings.
