A few days ago I came back from Milan Design Week. Every year me and a group of friends stay in the same neighborhood, and I feel at home the moment leaving the airport. If you know me longer, you know that I have a personal connection with the country. Italian is my second language, and I love those small Italian quirks and everyday rituals.
So all good, but also slightly different this year though, I remember last year coming back exhausted. This time I had set a few priorities, exhibitions that I really didn’t want to miss, we skipped most showrooms and concentrated on the special exhibitions and those we love each year. Of course we missed some, but in the end I need little to have a perfect day! We always set aside a whole day for Alcova, and I was glad Alcova returned to ‘The Baggio Military Hospital’. At Alcova, you find a variety of designers from all over the world; some designers I had met before, and others were completely new to me, so was Sten Studio with their exhibition ‘The wedding’

Sten Studio – The wedding
In an abandoned chapel within La Casa delle Suore, Sten Studio presents ‘The Wedding’. A sculptural installation that brought together different elements: feminine and masculine, softness and structure, intuition and form. Inside the chapel, stone is used as a material throughout the space, while objects are placed like quiet witnesses, creating a setting that feels both considered and restrained.
What is usually temporary, such as flowers, light and the moment of a ceremony, appears here translated into stone. Rather than a traditional collection, The Wedding brought together objects, space and narrative, where stone, setting and arrangement define the atmosphere. The church itself was also beautiful, with its stained-glass windows, ceiling, and the soft colors on the walls typical of this type of space. The whole experience was accompanied by harp music. About Sten Studio
Based in Mexico City, Sten Studio is a design laboratory which tackles the beauty and mystery of natural phenomena through the use of stones and crystals in contemporary furniture and bespoke decorative objects. Exploring any and everything formed by natural processes, the lab embraces minerals as both medium and muse.
Driven by the power of collaboration, the design laboratory works both local and abroad to source some of the most complex and diverse mineral structures known to our natural world. From there, each phase of the design is a shared process across suppliers, fabricators, and manufacturers to develop our ideas in form and concept.
