Exploring beds, materials and makers | Lemieux et Cie

In my previous post I talked about looking forward to finally finish painting the bedroom walls in the Paris paint colour. And how I’d like to give the room a different and more  luxurious look with fabrics. A few questions came to mind, should I paint the wainscoting or look for a bed with a fixed upholstered headboard. And what to do with the last concrete wall in the bedroom? It makes a clear statement and kind of has become part of the room. I love that raw unfinished look and once I paint over, it will be gone for good like in my living and hallway.

With a trip to Paris on the horizon, I hope to visit a few lovely shops for inspiration. Paris is truly a fantastic city to wander around, and I love how sometimes you come home with so many ideas, while other times you notice a small detail that sparks your creativity. It was the green wall in the first picture that made me look twice at the image of Lemieux et Cie, which I found while looking for beds with a beadhead. Such a classic image! The bed is part of the Avenir Collection and showcases the natural beauty of mappa burl in a sculptural, architectural form. Influenced by 20th-century furniture designers Milo Baughman and T. H. Robsjohn Gibbings, it highlights organic burl patterning across a softly contoured headboard. The gentle arch introduces shape and warmth to the clean-lined frame.

As I browsed the various collections and Instagram page, I felt like I’d stepped back in time. Many of the shapes, colours, and materials felt familiar, reminiscent of the furniture in my childhood home. My parents had beautiful mahogany furniture, including unique cabinets with blind doors that stood neatly next to sofas with their beautiful velvet patterns. It was a nice coincidence.

Looking at different beds eventually will bring me to hopefully finding the right one for my own room, and is part of the proces.
