Benhamou Studio × Soufiane Zarib | Orbit table

When collaborating with Domotex, the world’s leading trade show for floor coverings, I was always intrigued by Moroccan craftsmanship. The huge stands filled with carpets, the busy vibe of designers showing one beautiful piece after another to potential buyers. Over the years, I have seen the most beautiful carpets from many designers.

I was happy to see Youssef Benhamou, who I love to introduce to you today, working closely with Soufiane Zarib, whose work I had seen at Domotex before. Their collaboration on the ORBIT table beautifully highlights the dialogue between design and craftsmanship.

Youssef Benhamou

Youssef Benhamou is an interior architect and creative director based in Casablanca, founder of Benhamou Studio. His work explores a refined and contemporary approach to space, where materiality, light and proportion come together with a strong emotional dimension. His projects span residential, hospitality and collectible design.

Recognised by AD Middle East as one of the designers to follow right now, Youssef’s approach is inspired by the fluidity of Moroccan visual culture and international modernism. His layered interiors prioritise usability without sacrificing character, with signature projects ranging from refined boutique hotel renovations to contemporary beauty salons and custom retail concepts across Morocco.

ORBIT Table

ORBIT is a collectible table born from the dialogue between design and craftsmanship, a collaboration between interior architect and creative director Youssef Benhamou and Marrakech-based artisan Soufiane Zarib. Conceived as a sculptural object, the table explores the tension between mass, rhythm, and material. Produced in a limited edition, each piece reflects a balance between precision and raw expression.

The design draws inspiration from the finishes and textures of Soufiane Zarib’s latest collection, creating a subtle dialogue between contemporary design and ancestral know-how. Crafted by Moroccan workshops, ORBIT reflects a vision of luxury rooted in precision, material and craftsmanship. The result is a strong and timeless piece.

The Kharat wood-turning technique

The table was created using the Kharat technique of traditional Moroccan wood-turning, a method in which wood is shaped on a rotating lathe into cylindrical forms with carved grooves. This craft has a long history in Moroccan furniture and architectural detail. The collaboration between Youssef Benhamou and Soufiane Zarib reflects a shared interest in connecting contemporary design with Moroccan craftsmanship. Through ORBIT, both designers highlight a precise approach to material, technique and making.

What immediately caught my attention was the shape of the table and the combination of colours. in the first table showed. It is one of those pieces that makes you imagine an interior around it. I could almost see myself clearing a room and starting from scratch, with the table as the centre point. Which is exactily what Youssef said when I asked him about the hight of the table.  There are two versions of the table: one at 85 cm designed more as a central reception / statement table and another at 95 cm, which can be used as a dining table.
