Live Atelier and Gallery Manos in Amsterdam

I recently came across Atelier Manos, a creative space and gallery in Amsterdam. The gallery brings together the artistic vision of Dutch Timothy Van Oorschot and Jessica Barragan from Spain, who both share a passion for art and a deep respect for cultural diversity. Together they crafted a space that combines minimalist Dutch design with the vibrant energy of Spanish influence, creating a unique cultural fusion that invites visitors to experience creativity in action.

At the heart of Atelier Manos is a 600m² gallery showcasing an eclectic mix of artwork and furniture, as well as an open workshop where Timothy himself creates. The space reflects his journey—returning to the raw, imperfect beauty of creation. His work draws inspiration from Cobra art and outsider art, embracing spontaneity and the beauty of imperfection. This creative space is not just a gallery, but a testament to the power of cultural fusion, raw creativity, and the pursuit of authenticity.

The face

“The face,” Van Oorschot says, “is where we express the most emotion, and right now, it’s where I’m exploring the question, ‘Who am I? This manifests itself in repeatedly painting the face at the moment. It’s like thinking “who am I” over and over. On top of that, the face is also the part of us that expresses the most emotions, from the body it tells a lot without saying a word.

As a young kid I was always inspired by Cobra art and outsider art and I still am maybe even more than ever before. Because they are not tied to rules or boundaries movement. Often from one line because this creates the imperfection where in lies the unexpected. The faster the better because then I don’t have to think too much when I think things go wrong.
